De Castelli “Hard Couture”: discover all the expressive potentialities behind metals

Faithful to its decision to reinstate the special role of metal in design and experimentation, De Castelli infuses artisan ideas and workmanship into industrial processes, leading to entirely original results. The encounter with design inspires an approach to materials founded upon respect for their potential, be it hidden or obvious, which emerges slowly in a collection of pieces that, despite being part of a series, remain unique.

Unique not only for the hand that has created them, but also for the singular cultural path that focuses on the aesthetic (and not just practical) value of the primordial material with which De Castelli shapes living spaces.

Each object, even in the repetition of form, is a creative act in and of itself, one that incorporates a heritage of constantly-evolving expertise and research. The equation that relegates ‘cold’ metals to the margins of furnishing projects is thus overturned, bringing iron, brass and copper, in their infinite variations and finishes, to the centre of an entirely renewed stage, allowing them to finally shine with their own light.

Metal Vibes – De Castelli 2021 – Milan Design Week (Supersalone)

“Metal Vibes” is the name of the installation exhibited at the latest Supersalone /Milan Design Week 2021, that consists in an emotional wall that follows a plastic and organic trend, created by a multitude of convex copper discs with different finishes and oxidations that make up an all-over 3D texture.

FORMA / Collection DeTile

De Castelli / FORMA / Surfaces

The distinctive feature of this line of compositional modules suitable for both small and large spaces is the great variety of formats and finishes. With the utmost attention to every detail, the modules are cut and finished by hand, ensuring the edges and corners of each piece are particularly smooth.

YOKO / Collection DeTile

De Castelli / YOKO / Surfaces

The graphic language that Leonardo Sonnoli harnesses to express De Castelli’s know how plays with a range of inlaid surfaces, where the precise angle of the ornamental inlays alludes to an aesthetic code of enigmatic symbolism. Yoko is a system of DeLabré natural black iron sheet metal modules with inserts in brass or brushed copper, which lends itself to random design as a method for creating unique and original compositions. Yoko combines graphic design and craftsmanship in a visual result of great elegance inspired by modern and contemporary art.

DEEROSION / Collection DeTile

De Castelli / DEEROSION / Surfaces

The DeErosion collection is the culmination of a long-standing experimentation, and is obtained by integrating technological solutions with completely manual techniques employing craftsmanship of the highest order. The distinctive finishing is created using controlled erosion of the metal, the result of ongoing research into materials which has always been a hallmark of De Castelli. The extremely versatile working process amplifies the vibrant appearance of the material, creating a great sense of depth.

CIPHER / Collection DeTile

A modular system with a solid yet dynamic appearance, halfway between rigour and randomness. Starting out from four rectangular formats, each characterised by a differently-sized rectangle with an eroded pattern within it, Cipher creates surfaces of great complexity and detail by employing a very simple code based on a minimum number of elements. The relationship between order and randomness can be observed across the entire product range: both in the micro, where each module has a unique, constantly varying finishing, and in the macro, where the random repetition of the elements occurs within a precise grid with staggered lines. The balance between randomness and order creates a visual expressiveness of varying, precise and distinctive densities, but which are ever changing.

ARAZZI / Collection DeFrame

DeFrames transcends the traditional boundaries of design and interior decoration to explore the limits of artistic expression in an original way. Freed from its primary function as a wall covering, the metal surfaces become original artistic works, giving full rein to the creativity of graphic designers, interior specialists and architects. Designer surfaces with declared artistic value, DeFrames works are textured panels designed to be wall hung. Engravings, inlays, controlled erosion, oxidations and enamels make up the De Castelli palette, which over time transforms the material into an abstract painting, illustration or tapestry. The graphic design enhances the intense beauty of the material and the complexity of the workmanship employed, transforming the composition into a true piece of art. Arazzi Regina / Re is a system of brass sheet metal modules with DeErosion finish designed by Gumdesign (measures of 180 x 210 cm, for a weight of about 107 kg).

LOSANGA / Collection DeMosaic

Formal elegance and perfect craftsmanship characterise the Losanga mosaic, with its distinctive rhomboid tile design. The two- or three- element arrangement gives rise to complex patterns, made even more precious by the nuances of the DeLabré workmanship, which lends a 3-dimensional optical illusion to the surface.

DIAMOND 30 / Collection DeMosaic

The distinctive punched design that embellishes each tile gives great depth of texture to the surface, which is further enhanced by the DeLabré finishes. Diamond 30 embodies and showcases the meticulous care that goes into producing each and every piece, enhancing the physical value of the material. Each module provides a textural reminder of the craftsmanship employed in its production.

VERTICAL GREEN / Collection DeSign

This re-imagining of a three-dimensional geometric pattern fashioned with Virginia Creeper leaves is inspired by nature and has echoes of an art nouveau composition, whilst leaving room for abstraction. The “vertical garden” backdrop thus created evokes a characteristic autumn landscape, warmed by the choice of materials and their manifold oxidations and finishes.

3D WALL / Collection DeSign

3D Wall is an effective wall cladding system, providing maximum composition flexibility. The square- shaped modules, diagonally sectioned, are fixed by magnets to a special metal sheet anchored to the wall. The different depths of the sides, coupled with the possibility to customise the modules with the range of De Castelli finishes, accentuate the sculptural aspect of 3D Wall: by rotating each element by 90 °, it is possible to play on the alternation of colours and thicknessesto emphasize its three- dimensional quality.
