Saudi Arabia plays extreme: THE RIG, the new tourism project for your ultimate offshore adventure

What do you thing about this project consisting not in a theme park but rather in “an extreme park, an entirely new playground of adventure.”? Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has revealed its plans for the new park inspired by offshore oil platforms, which will be located in the Arabian Gulf and will be named THE RIG. This project is part of a the wider strategy 2021-2025 that aims at making Saudi Arabia a leading global tourist destination, providing promising development opportunities to achieve economic diversification in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.

THE RIG project will span an area of more than 150,000 square meters and provide a multitude of hospitality offerings, adventures, and aquatic sporting experiences. It is part of PIF’s strategy to further strengthen Saudi Arabia’s international entertainment and tourism offering.

This project is a unique tourism attraction, expected to attract tourists from around the world while being especially popular with citizens and residents of the GCC countries in the region, the PIF said. It will feature a number of touristic attractions, including three hotels, world-class restaurants, helipads, and a range of adventurous activities, including extreme sports.
